ok I apologize I am posting this message on all the forums but I really need some answers.
I am looking at some Hosp. and Tourism MBAs and am not sure if its worth it or if I should take a much easier and cheaper route and just go for MA in Tourism.
Thanks
I know that there are some out there- I didn't do one personally, but I believe that University of Guelph and University of Victoria in Canada both offer one, as does University of Surrey in UK.
It really depends on what you want to do in the end. We get a lot of people on the board who were conflicted between MSc. in Finance, Project managment or marketing and the MBA and asking what the difference is, and what route they should take. I suggest doing a search and reading over those, and if you have any more questions, I'm sure someone on the board will be happy to help.

I would need to know what you want to do to see if it's worth your time. I own a travel agency so I come into contact with tourism executives frequently. I'm sure you know this, but the hospitality and tourism industry is very big. The opportunities are varied as well. If you are taking an entrepreneurial route, an MBA in tourism really isn't necessary. You will learn what you need just by doing business and gaining a mentor. If you are looking to move your way up the corporate ladder, let's say in a big hotel chain, then yes, this will serve as a competitive advantage. I don't think you necessarily need a concentration in tourism though. Even though I have an MBA, everything I have learned about tourism has been hands on. From my perspective, I think a concentration in finance or project management will be of more use to you than hospitality and tourism. Chances are that if you are working in a big company i.e. Marriott, Carnival, etc., you'll be dealing more with the financial side, pricing, inventory, contracts, things of that nature. They need help increasing their bottom line through pricing strategies. I know about this first hand because my business is to take advantage of these companies excess inventory. That's just my take coming from a travel agency owner's perspective. If you have a particular path that you would like to go, seek out a mentor for advise. Hope this helps.

You may want to check out Cornell's School of Hotel Administration.
