MBA(Finance) vs MS in Accounting

I am toying with the idea of going to grad school to get either an MBA or MS in Accounting. Right now I work for an Investment Bank with a focus on Trade Accounting. I am looking to get into Management but am not sure which degree to pursue. Although my company will pay for it one of the leading factors is the # of credits for completion - MBA (48-60) vs MS (30). All thoughts welcome. Please advise. Thanks.

it depends on what you want to do with the Degree- when you say get into management- do you mean management of that particular department or management of the bank.

If you want to be the department manager with specific technical knowledge- the MSc would be the better choice, but if you want a broad array of skills and a wide perspective on business, the MBA would be the way to go.

I was approached about managing our group in the next 8 months to a year. I guess the main question I'm asking is whether or not a MS in Accounting is enough to become a possible excutive in the future? I am leaning towards the more technical degree but do not want it to hinder my advancement in the long run. And just to give a bit of a background my undergrad studies were in economics.
