Hello,
I wanted to apply to top B-schools to change my career from technical to B-oriented. But I was not sure whether my current work experience would be enough.

I believe I have a very strong undergraduate and graduate (Italian BS + MS of Science with high GPA) background and achievements, and international exposure.
But my work experience is basically only technical (technical support) even though it is in a Fortune 500 leader telecom/internet US company

Now I have 2 years experience with one promotion (after first year) and I will now start supporting my own customer. So there has been a path and a growing responsability given to me but not that much. plus I had never been managing/supervising other people

Would you think that could be a factor that could cut me off the top European and US MBA's?

Thanks in advance
V

Dear V,

This is an excellent question. Although you only have 2 years of work experience, there are some factors that could work in your favor:

1) For the US programs, you are applying from Europe (I am assuming Italy). Very few candidates apply to b-school in the US from Italy, so you will stand out.

2) I am assuming that you ALREADY have 2 years of experience and that you will actually have 3 years when you apply - which is not that far from the average of 4 years at most of these schools.

3) You are working for a brand-name Fortune 500 firm.

In order to effectively make a diagnosis and tell you what your chances are, I would need to know more about your work experience, career goals and the schools you are targeting. Who will be writing your recommendations? Do you have any leadership or team experiences at work or in your extracurricular activities? These are all very important questions. How have you done on the GMAT (if you have taken it).

Please feel free to contact me via email. We now have an office in Europe and are working with many candidates who are living in Europe and looking at the top Int'l b-schools.

Best of luck,

Graham
