GRE Question...

I recently recieved my AWA score of 5.5, and so my stats for this latest GRE are:

390V 800Q 5.5A

My question is this: obviously my verbal is low, but do you think the AWA score may offset that, as both deal in some way with communication and the english language. It seems to me that knowing how to write well is more important than knowing 500 obscure words of the english language. Will schools consider this, or am I doomed with my pathetic verbal.

I don't want to take the GRE again, I've taken it 3 times, but neither time have I studied for the verbal. As I am applying to only engineering/finance disciplines, I pretty much took it upon myself to think that the verbal score is meaningless in the desicions process. I now regret this.

1. Your field --> Engg/Finance isn't really equivalent to doctoral studies in say, Advanced English literature and poetry. So verbal scores would not be as important.

2. A school usually looks at the *best* verbal score.

3. Your perfect 800 and research experience are good assets which will take you easily past the first screening stage. The verbal scores strictly come into the picture in the next round or even the last round.

You're doing fine, don't worry so much.
