Let's start with academics. You certainly have no shortage of academic degrees - and you have performed very well - particularly in graduate school. In addition, you have pursued challenging subjects (comp. sci. and chem. engg.) that should send a signal to the committee that you are very prepared for the challenges of an MBA program. Where were these degrees earned? In the US? Are the schools well known?
As far as the GMAT is concerned, you are 'in the ballpark' at the top schools - but will not stand out in this category. Given the list of schools you have suggested, I assume your GMAT should be more or less near the average in the overall pool - although this may vary since engineering/comp. sci applicants tend to have stronger GMATs.
Your work experience is with two well-known organizations - and I presume that you have progressed nicely at IBM (leading others, working in teams, dealing with clients). The key will be convincing the committee that you are 'management material' as opposed to an overly 'technical' person. This means avoiding an overly technical-sounding resume and keeping the essays and recommendations focused on your move AWAY from engineering and TOWARDS management (hence your realization that you want an MBA).
We have worked with dozens of candidates with a similar profile to yours. Please feel free to contact us directly for a free initial consultation about your candidacy. You can email a resume to us at: info@clearadmit.com. You may also want to consult the Clear Admit web site. There are many areas that I would need to know about to give you more detailed advice (such as your career goals, extracurricular activities/hobbies and international experience) - so feel free to email that sort of info to us along with your resume.
Best of luck with your applications,
Graham
sanshy1972 07-03-2003, 11:51 AM Thanks a bunch for replying. I obtained my bachelors degree in chemical engineering in India, My master's in chemical engineering was from the University of Arkansas and the masters in computer science was from Northern illinois university. I have been a team lead at my software job, but am currently involved a lot in design and architecture type work besides coding. I have about 5 papers published in the last 4 years in software (whitepapers for the customers). Maybe this can give you a better feel for my qualifications. thanks again
Clear Admit 07-03-2003, 02:57 PM Dear Sanshy1972,
Thanks for the details regarding your profile as an MBA applicant. It's good to see that your graduate degrees were earned in the US, since this should give the MBA schools a sense for your ability to perform in the American system. I am also pleased to hear that your work has not been 100% technical for IBM - and your publications will be a nice item to have tucked into the resume.
Overall, you will essentially face the general challenge of standing out from the hundreds of Indian's with engineering degrees and jobs in the tech sector. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions regarding our track record in this area. You may also wish to read some of the latest testimonials that have been placed on our web site http://www.clearadmit.com/testimonials.html
Best of luck,
Graham
