French_Rabbit 07-27-2006, 11:47 AM Hi everyone,
I have a big dilemna. I have just been admitted Today to IESE (Barcelona) out of the wait list for the Sept. 06 intake (I applied very, very late...).
In theory, I should be pleased. However, after applying, I realised that I should have gone for a start in 2007. In fact, I have started up a company at the beginning of this year, and its future looks very promissing so far. Going to IESE would mean giving away the management and part of my shares of the company to my partner. Most of all, it would mean that I would miss most of its growth, success or failure.
However, doing an MBA is something I want to do for a long time already and at 32, I cannot wait much longer. IESE will probably refuse a deferral because of my age (only 5% of the class is above 30).
So it comes down to 2 options:
1) I go to IESE and I hope that my company will have grown during my MBA so that I can apply my skills when I come out
2) I deny the admission to IESE, I stay with my company and I apply to Kellogg, Wharton, MIT and LBS for Sept. 2007, with no guarantee of being admitted to any of these. No guarantee either that my company will succeed and that I won't have jeopardized all my chances to do an MBA.
I have one week to decide. And 5 weeks to go before the start of the pre-term...
Any insight guys?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Cheers
François
Clear Admit 07-27-2006, 01:27 PM a nice dilemma. I think the first thing I would do is contact IESE and share your dilemma and ask if there is a chance of a deferral given the circumstances and late admissions notice. If they are willing to work with you then perhaps it makes sense to stick with the company for one more year. If they are not willing, I think I would go to school this year and work with your partner on whatever arrangement you need to make so you can return to the company, if it survives and grows, later. cheers, alex
