Clear Admit 01-23-2006, 09:25 PM Dear Voldemort,
Since you’re on the younger side of MBA applicants, it would have been crucial for you to demonstrate to the adcom that you need an MBA at this earlier juncture in your career. You should have shown the adcom that you’ve thought long and hard about what you’d like to do in the future, have solidified your career goals and fully explain the ways that your current position limits you from achieving these.
Your GMAT score is within an acceptable range for the schools to which you’re applying (710 is the average GMAT score at most of the top schools). It sounds as though you’ve had some solid work experience consulting in Intellectual Property. It’s also great that even at your younger age, you’ve had experience directly managing up to 10 people; this should have been something that you highlighted in your applications as well.
Because many engineers applying to business school have attended school at Indian institutions, the most essential component of your applications should have been finding ways to show that you stand out from the rest. Managing blood donation camps is one way to set yourself apart as is having clear career goals that make sense given your career history. If you have any more extracurricular activities, they should have been listed in your application as well. The adcom wants to see that candidates are well-rounded with a diversity of interests and would be active participants in life on campus.
Thus, your profile suggests you may be somewhat competitive at these schools but much will depend upon how you presented yourself in your applications: goal clarity, extracurricular activities and accomplishments, demonstrated professional maturity and how well you fine-tuned your essays and ensured these accurately depicted each aspect of your candidacy.

voldemort 01-24-2006, 05:51 PM Thank you for highlighting the pros and cons in the profile.
Looking at my profile would you suggest that I wait for another year and gain more expereice or go for meeting my immidiate requirement for a general managemenht program? I aspire to go into Private Equity and the inspiration to apply in a B school was to link my present career with that in PE.
Any thoughts?
Clear Admit 01-24-2006, 09:19 PM Dear Voldemort,
At this point, you could put off your application for as many as three or four years and still not be significantly older than the average applicant. In other words, at this point you are not in any danger of ‘missing your window?as an MBA applicant at the schools you’ve expressed interest in. Therefore, taking another year to get some further experience might be a good idea. However, if you choose to do so, you must make sure that you actually make a significant effort to address the weaknesses in your candidacy and improve upon them. For example, you may wish to settle on one element of your community-based extra-curricular involvement and take it ‘to the next level,?taking on an enhanced leadership role and creatively growing the organization.
I am pleased to see that you have begun working out your career goals in PE. If you wait for another year, it would give you time to further refine these goals. You should do further research into the specifics of the PE field, figuring out what type of firm you might like to work for and which skill sets you would need to possess to succeed at these firms. Especially if you decide to reapply to any of the schools you mentioned, it will be very important to demonstrate that you have developed yourself as a candidate. A primary method of doing so is to refine your career goals and/or take some quantifiable steps toward achieving them.
If you decide to apply to more schools this year, I caution you to remember that the Round 1 and Round 2 deadlines for most of the top schools have already passed. It is significantly more difficult to gain admission in Round 3 (and/or Round 4). This is another factor to keep in mind as you decide whether or not to wait another year.
You should feel free to contact our office at info@clearadmit.com for more feedback on how best to prepare yourself for next year’s applications, in the event that you choose to wait. Good luck!
