pcvarmenia 12-15-2005, 09:30 AM Like many of you, I am interested in entering the top MBA programs.
I believe I can make a strong case: I have an acceptable GMAT score (730), a successful career as a sales director for a software consulting company (my team notched over 150% revenue increase year-to-year and averted an eminent bankruptcy), unusual experience (currently serving in the Peace Corps), and an unique and clear set of goals (nonprofit and/or international development).
Here is the bombshell: GPA - 2.30.
I can explain how the GPA is in the toilet, but there is not much else I can do to salvage the blemish. I feel that using services from Clear Admit would help, but I am not certain if I should apply, if there is less than a 50% of chance to get into any of the top program.
Please advice!

Clear Admit 12-19-2005, 11:06 PM Dear pcvarmenia,
I wouldn’t write off a top business school just yet but it will be essential for you to put together comprehensive applications with well-written essays. Make sure that you use an optional essay to address your low GPA and to explain the circumstances that resulted in your poor performance during college.
In terms of the positives of your background, your high GMAT score indicates that you have the intellectual capacity to handle b-school courses. Your work experience sounds solid (and you should be able to write about your personal impact given your role in helping your company avert bankruptcy) and your current Peace Corps service and your unique goals should set you apart from more traditional applicants.
Thus, while your GPA will raise serious concerns with the adcom and be a detriment to your candidacy, considering all other aspects of your application are outstanding, it won’t necessarily bar you from admission to a top school.
Sincerely,
Chelsea Ferrell
