blacksun25 12-20-2005, 11:11 AM Dear Clear Admit Experts !
How do the different schools differ regarding R3 applicants ?
I have a big timing problem for which I need your advice. How much does it reduce my chances if I apply in R3 instead of R2?
I am in a time crunch and won't manage to have really good essays and recommendations for the R2 deadline. Is it worth to apply in R3 with better worked out essays and recommendations which then could also be more synchronized with the essays ?
My main US targets are HBS and Wharton.
Otherwise I think I have quite good chances:
-Consultant at Top-2 Strategy Consulting Firm (MCK/BCG)
-International Experience (born in East Europe, Working in West Europe)
-First degree at top European University
-Was already doing research for the thesis of my first degree as a Visiting Scholar at an Top 10 US business school
-Cofounder of small charity-organization
-Good recommenders (2 are HBS alums)
As I am in the Consulting-Demographic group I think that clearly worked out essays with unique points are cruical for me.
I know that R3 has lower admittance rates, but isn't also the general quality of applicants worse ?
Does being from Europe influence my chances ? (given that especially internationals mainly apply in previous rounds?)
thanks for your help
Clear Admit 12-20-2005, 08:32 PM Hey Blacksun,
You've posed some good questions. The difference between R2 and R3 is a tricky one. The most important thing is to prepare quality applications. If you don’t feel that you can prepare a strong application in time for a school’s R2 deadline, then you should wait. Strong essays and strong recommendations are a vital aspect of any successful MBA application, and you will be much less likely to be successful if you do not spend sufficient time on them.
Schools generally admit the vast majority of their classes in the first two rounds. Therefore, it is clear that applying in R3 will be something of a disadvantage. However, R3 exists because the schools do indeed still need to fill some spots. Strong applicants do still have a good chance of gaining admission in this latter round. It seems to me that, given your profile, you are a very strong applicant. However, you might also want to consider waiting until next year to apply, if that is an option. That way, you would have plenty of time to prepare the best possible applications, and you could apply during the most statistically advantageous rounds.
In the event that you do decide to apply R3, please consider submitting your application at least 2 weeks ahead of the deadlines. Some schools have announced that they review international applicants prior to the deadlines to ease visa constraints. It's likely that schools that haven't announced this are still following suit.
Good luck!
