Too late to retake GMAT??

Hello,

I received a 660 overall GMAT score with V 96% but Q only 57%. Clearly the quantitative score is low - is it too late to retake the GMAT if I already sent in 3 of 4 applications? Will schools typically consider a score after receiving an application?

Thank you

Hey there, hope this isn't too late of a response. If you get waitlisted you can often submit a retake score but if the deadlines for your apps have already passed, you might as well wait. I would definitely retake if you get waitlisted or don't get into a school you're happy with, because a 57% GMAT score could definitely hurt.

Dear Skatee,

If you think that you can improve your GMAT score, I would recommend retaking it. Your quantitative score is low, given that the admissions committees at the top business schools generally use a benchmark of 80% in each section. You should also improve this if you can because you need to show the adcom you have strong skills in this area and will be able to perform well in the quantitatively rigorous classes at b-school.

If you think that you can score higher on the quantitative section, it would be a good idea to retake the GMAT and submit the new score. While business schools don’t promise that they’ll look at the new GMAT score after they’ve already received an application, they often do. Each school has a different policy regarding review of materials that have been received after the deadline; the sooner you can take the exam, the more likely it is the adcom will review your score.
