HopeBB06 12-16-2005, 10:22 PM Dear Clear Admit
I just got waitlisted in R1 for a top school. They are encouraging me to supply more material which I will have as I am taking a Calc class in the spring. They will also periodically review my application for the subsequent rounds.
This is certainly more encouraging than an outright rejection, but what does it mean for R2 and R3? Am I in a better position than a raw applicant in R2? Or am I now so much surplus material?
Anyone know if 2008 is shaping up to be a very competitive year?
Clear Admit 12-19-2005, 11:04 PM Dear HopeBB06,
While it’s unfortunate that you’ll have to wait longer, the fact that you were waitlisted is encouraging and a sign of the strength of your candidacy. If there are any significant changes in your application (either at work, in academics, such as the Calculus class you plan to take, or in your extracurricular involvements), you should consider sending the admissions committee an update letter to inform them of these developments.
As far as the process, you’ll be consistently considered alongside both Round 2 and Round 3 applicants. To answer your question about the number of this year’s candidates, application volume seems to be pretty much the same as last year (and just about as competitive).
Sincerely,
Chelsea Ferrell
