I'm applying to about 5 Business schools...all 5 that require recommendation letters....i have 3 directors in my dept that i am asking to write a letter for me..

am i supposed to just hand my busy bosses all my recommendation letters at once (ex: all 5 schools = 10-12 pieces of paper) and just let them fill them all out in a few months time...or am i supposed to give them 1 recommendation letter per school at a time ..and once they are done..give them #2, then #3 etc...

also some schools require you to do the recommendation online...when am i supposed to tell my bosses to fill those out?

i'm just figuring out the proper etiquette when it comes to these. i know in high school..i made sure to give my teachers about 1 1/2 month time ahead before my college application deadlines.

thanks

Ive prepared a recommendatin package that consolidates all of the questions into one source, explains what the application process is all about and why I chose to apply to the schools i did.

I think the key is just to show that you know they are doing you a favor and that you have tried to minimize its impact on their life. I also over-did some of the areas as a token gesture - a way to say 'i wouldn't ask you to be the only one working so hard on my recommendations.'

I certainly would NOT string anyone along with a never-ending parade of recommendation requests. Be up front, let them know how much work it will be. If they push back, ask them if they'll do 2 or 3, and then just distribute the recommendation burden over a wider audience.

i agree with ImJustMatt. you might also include your goals essay so your recs. know why business school etc. be careful though, make sure they do not simply copy and paste content from your work to their rec. you might also tell them the deadline is a little sooner than it actually is, and then keep in touch with them on a regular basis. cheers, alex
