Clear Admit 01-18-2006, 04:52 PM Dear SKS,
It seems to me that you’ve laid the groundwork for a strong MBA candidacy. It is not uncommon for applicants with your profile to gain admission to schools such as the five you’ve listed. However, you are by no means a ‘shoe-in?at any of those programs. As you think about your candidacy, these are a few things to keep in mind:
1) Oversubscribed categories ?As you may already know, you come from one of the most oversubscribed groups (engineers who studied in India) in the MBA applicant pool. Therefore, you will need to do everything within your power to demonstrate that you break the stereotypes associated with this category. The best way to do this is through your extra-curricular activities, and by demonstrating that you are more than ‘just an engineer?in the professional realm. Strong leadership experiences that highlight your communication and strategic decision-making abilities are particularly important.
2) The GMAT ?I’m not sure what your actual verbal percentile is, but the difference between your quantitative and verbal scores suggests that the verbal percentile may be below 80. Clearing this hurdle is particularly important to most top schools. If you have not cleared it, it is a weakness that should be addressed elsewhere in your candidacy, either via strong demonstrations of your professional communication abilities, or a high TOEFL score.
3) Goals ?I am glad that you already have an idea of where you will concentrate your MBA studies. Now, however, you must make sure that this concentration exists within a well-defined career progression. You will need to be able to tell the admissions committee exactly why you want to major in general management, for example, and how you will use it to attain your realistic but impressive career goals.
If you can successfully achieve all of the above in your applications, your chances at the top schools will be improved. Good luck!

I really thank you for real assessment in my case.
Except a difference between Quant & Verbal score, I am aware of other two things and trying to built it up further.
I feel there is an indirect proportion between institute and the amount of student aid they are likely to offer. In one case, I received a proposal for 75%
scholarship w/o applying.
Keep walking...
