How good are my chances?

Hi! I would like feedback on my chances of admission at a top 10 school. My details:

Indian male engineer (what were the chances of that? :) ), 24 y.o., 3 years work experience with a Fortune 100 company in India, Germany, and US (4 by the time I get into school next year). Multilingual, graduated from the best institute in India (IIT), undergrad GPA 3.1, GMAT 760.

Extra curricular activities: a few things, but nothing earth shattering. This could be the weakest part of my profile.

Career focus: consulting / general management

Target schools (in order of preference): Tuck, Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Michigan, Darden.

1. What are my chances of admission at the schools mentioned above?
2. Am I missing out on any school that I should be considering?
3. Are there any schools that areparticularly GMAT strong?

I apoligize for the lengthy post, but I wanted to give you enough data to work on. Thanks for your time!

Hi,
I believe that your chance is as high as fellow business school applicant. I am Darden class of 2008 bound student and I had 650 in my GMAT exam. I did not allow this to affect me or my application.

However, I would suggest that you digest the business school websites. You will find great resources you may not find any where else on those websites. That's exactly what I did. The information I got from the business school websites also formed part of my application essay. If you still need more clarification, you may bookmark www.mbaxploit.com (http://www.mbaxploit.com). I use it to share my business school application experience. You may also contact me via me@mbaxploit.com.

All the best in your business school application.

As noted, with the information you have provided your chances appear 'decent'. Lack of community work recently may be an issue as that is oftentimes where an applicant like yourself (IIT etc.) can standout from other outstanding applicants. If you can pursue something this summer that is substantial (and something you are truly passionate about) then do it. Also, make sure to apply in the first round if you can.

cheers, alex

Yes, I do plan to apply in the 1st round. I am very passionate about environmental issues, so I will see if I can do some work with a green group in the near future. Thanks again for your inputs.

try to make sure the work you do with the 'green' group has some substance, above a quick volunteer stint. if the work includes some leadership all the better.

cheers, alex
