What are my chances of getting into part time mba program at NYU?

Hi,

What are my chances of getting into part time mba at NYU?

My background is as follows:
gmat: 680 (math: 49, verbal: 33)
undergrad degree in CS from RPI, gpa: 3.77
master degree in civil engineering also from RPI, gpa: 3.33
work experience in IT consulting, data analysis and public policy: 2 years.

My main concern is that I have less work experience than most other applicants, what should I do to improve my chances of getting in?

Thank you.

Another one of my concern is the break down of my gmat score. My verbal score of 33 (69%) is below the 80% benchmark. It is because English is my second language and my background is in engineering. While I do believe taking the gmat a second time may improve my overall scores, I do not think I will get much improvement from the verbal section. Should I retake the gmat in this case?
I also scored a 5.5 (87%) on the AWA. Will this help my chances?

Your stats are in line with NYU part-time (GMAT tends to be a little lower than full-time, etc). As for your age/amount of experience, I'm not really sure (do they post stats on the part-time site with the average)? Clearly you are going to be younger, but I'm not sure that's a deal breaker - unless they explicitly state a preference for more on their site? Of course, all of this begs the real question: why not go for a top 15, full-time, if you are young, etc... cheers, alex

it may help a little, but only if you can increase the verbal side of the score I think. cheers, alex

Alex,

Thank you for your suggestions. I checked the NYU part time profile online. There's nothing posted on their website but from business week I found that in 2003/2004 the average work experience for those entering the program is 58 months, mid 80% range from 26-94 months. I will have 29 months by January. Their average GMAT is 673 mid 80% range from 620-730. Looks like I will have a good chance if I work hard on the essays.

The reason I do not want to be in a full time program is because I have been in school for a long time already. I got my first master full time, but felt it didn't really help me since I didn't have any work experience comming out of it. I feel in a way work experience is more important at this point of my life. I also really like my current job. But, I would like to get the mba now because I am a girl, if I waited anylonger family responsibilities may come into my first priority.
