ImJustMatt 05-26-2006, 12:43 AM The information you gave us was of two types - 1. action w/o results (20 hours of community service) and 2. results w/o action (held x position).
Having come from usa, I can't intuitively convert your GPA, but it seems remarkable (can you standardize it for us?). Certainly, your 770 is enough to win a second look from all but the most brazen. I don't think you will have trouble convincing anyone of your potential. I'm most familiar with american schools - your score is a golden ticket to some of the schools off the beaten path, but isn't going to get you into a top 10 school on its own.
Now, you have to begin to frame all of your achievements from a manager's perspective (and show what makes them great) - Ok, you won employee of the month? Well, who did you beat out? What did you do to secure the win? Were there any other remarkable circumstances? Simply, how did you better use the resources available to you? - ok, you worked 20 hours of community service, what impact did that effort have? etc.

Clear Admit 05-26-2006, 02:08 PM Dear Pankss,
Thanks for providing all of this detail about your candidacy. First of all, your GMAT (which I assume you mistyped and meant to say was 770), is very strong. As ImJustMatt mentioned, this alone will put you into the caliber of applicants that typically get accepted to the top American and international programs. However, a strong GMAT is not enough in and of itself ?you must also be able to demonstrate that you have been successful within the context of the academic and professional environments.
In any case, the caliber of your candidacy to these top schools will depend largely on what you do with your time between now and when you apply, and what you then argue that you will do with your career after graduating from an MBA program. While I realize that there is a great deal of business involved with hospitality management, and that you have taken various business-related classes in pursuit of your degree, I wonder how clearly you will be able to demonstrate a career progression. Rather than simply working in hospitality for three years, you will need to be able to demonstrate that you have grown throughout your position come to a point in your career progression where you are in need of an MBA to progress further. You will need to be able to argue that you have earned the foundational business skills of leadership and teamwork, while also proving that you are able to succeed in the sort of quantitatively rigorous environment generally associated with a finance or engineering job.
In any case, I think that you have the groundwork laid for a very strong candidacy. Good luck with the application process!
