kumank 08-11-2006, 11:19 AM Okay, here is my situation. Almost 6 years ago, I graduated with an engineering degree with a GPA of 2.9. Since graduation, I have been working at IBM and I have done very well w/ my carreer @ IBM. I took my GMATs about a month ago and scored a very low score of 540. I am planning on taking my GMATs in early October again, and hopefully increasing my score by a 100 or so. Now, given my low GPA and a potential score of lets say 600, what are my chances of getting into a school like NYU or Columbia, for that fact. Please advise....
I know my application(recomendations) + interview will contain the "wow" factor, the only reason of concern is my academic scores. Please advise...
Icemastr 08-13-2006, 02:21 PM NYU and Columbia are top schools. The top 30 ranked MBA programs usually have average GMAT scores above 670 or so and average undergraduate GPAs at least 3.3 or so. Other people that are applying are going to have 5-6 years work experience too. Even if you score 100 higher you are still a few marks below the average in the GPA and GMAT department so you will need to be well above average in some of the other areas of consideration. At any rate you should also apply to one or two schools where you have a much higher chance of being admitted.
