canadianstudent1985 07-16-2006, 02:13 AM I'm currently entering my last year of a BSc in Psychology. I had never considered doing an MBA but I recently started thinking about it and I like the idea. The problem is that I have no idea how to go about getting into an MBA program.
Where can I find out what kind of job will help me get into a good program?
How can I go about getting a good job with my background (I have no business background at all)?
Where can I learn about general admissions requirements for business schools?

You can ask our members or someone like David Petersam who specializes in Admissions consulting.

business background myth
A business background isn't necessarily needed to get into a MBA program however work experience usually is. This work experience does not necessarily have to be in a business field. It could be in the Psychology field. You will most likely need to take a few basic undergrad Bus. classes after your admitted.
How to get a job.
Make use of your professors and career center at your school.
Use the Internet job boards but don't rely on them. They usually only have jobs for experienced professionals although you may get lucky.
Networking is also a good way to find a job. Talk to everyone. I got my first job by talking with people at the gym. Someone knew someone who needed my skills.
Interview a lot. Go to interviews even if you don't want the job. Its good practice and when you find the job you want your interviewing skill will be polished. You'll also find out what you don't want.
Don't be overly picky with your first job. You're not going to be there forever. The best time to look for work is when your already employed. Its also better for bargining.
Where can I learn about general admissions requirements for business schools?
Businessweek usually posts requirements. You can also check each schools website. Most schools post their requirements.

We also have a lot of helpful members who have gone through the process.
