Chances for Harvard MBA?

Iwein

I would like to get my MBA at Harvard, but have no idea what my chances are. I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and a Master of Science in Media & Knowledge Engineering, cum laude (top 5%). I am the only one to have ever done the 3-year Bachelor and 2-year Master in 3 years total, and am also - to my best knowledge - the youngest ever to have graduated (for a Master) from my university (age 19).

In the european system, grades are not normally distributed, and it is quite normal for courses to have only 20% of the people receiving a passing grade, and a 7/10 to be the highest grade given. My GPA starts relatively low, around 7-7.5/10, but for the last two years it was 8.2/10 and 9/10. To what extent will my GPA affect my application?

I lack full-time work experience, but I have fulfilled the role of assistant professor for two years at my university, consuming on average 20 hours a week, next to my study. In this position I completely changed the way the projects were given, resulting in what are now the best appreciated projects of the curriculum. I was responsible for teaching 150 students and supervised several T.A.'s

I have done numerous extracurricular activities, among others severalModel United Nations, and received awards for this as well.

I screwed up my GMAT and was unable to retake it for my round 1 application. I wasn't used to the computer-adaptive-testing, and was told by all online help to hurry up, as most people would run out of time. I left the test center with 1,5 hours remaining and a score of 640.

My TOEFL (iBT) went a bit better, with reading 30/30, writing 30/30, listening 29/30, speaking 29/30 (so total 118/120).

Judging from what I have read so far on MBA applications, my age, lack of work experience, and bad GMAT would be concerns for my application. My teaching experience would add to the class diversity however, and my academic performance is unprecedented.

Do I have a chance at Harvard?

I think your chances are pretty slim at best. No work experience will hurt you badly. The GMAT score is very low for Harvard. You listed almost nothing that demonstrated an excellence in leadership. If I was applying to Harvard to even expect a chance without 4-5 years excellent work experience I would expect to have a GMAT well over 700, done multiple service projects and been a leader that demonstrated excellent and have a near perfect GPA. If you barely got done with college I think you need to work a few years before trying to apply, or apply again if you already did.
