txboy2000 10-24-2006, 06:00 PM Hi All- I live in Texas, and I am applying for a handful of B-schools in the fall. Most of the sets of essay questions include one like "What do you plan to do with an MBA, short-term and long-term?"
I have an engineering background. I have worked for 6 years for a major computer company. Given that I have never taken a business course, how can I be expected to spell out my future direction before taking any classes? I know that I'd like to expand my skill set beyond the realm of engineering, that I'd like to position myself for leadership, and that I'd like to leverage my tech background along with my newfound business skills, but beyond that, who knows! :)
I suspect that many applicants to B-school don't have specific ideas about specialization, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!
mahesh 10-27-2006, 09:48 PM I am in your shoes. I have no clue of what to expect post MBA. what is THE path. Moreover, I would also like to know, how much does a school in the 2nd tier actually matter. So would it matter if I did my MBA from a school ranked 60th or school ranked 110th.
Moreover, considering the situation I am in, I wont start MBA for any school except one before Fall 2008. There is this school which started its MBA last year and is ready to accomodate me on a short notice and I can complete my MBA by FALL 2008. SO should I wait for FALL 2008 to join hopefully a better school or take this admit and complete my MBA.
Appreciate any response.
