InProgress 09-29-2006, 04:28 AM At my Canadian University, our GPA comes on a 9-point scale.
My GPA is 5.42 / 9 .
A) Does this equate to 2.4 / 4.0 GPA? So, when everyone here speaks of their GPA scores, I am a 2.4?
As well, my last 2 years were 7.9 / 9. Which, if it's straight simple relational math, equates to 3.5 / 4.0 GPA.
B) To the B-schools, am I a 2.4 or a 3.5?
C) Should I spin the 3.5 angle since it is my last 2 'serious' years? Or does that do more damage than it helps?
Some schools look at the last 2 years and realize that's when most students become more focused. Other schools look at the GPA holistically- and others still don't care about what your GPA was along as you got your parchment in the end and have a decent GMAT.
Look at the specific requirements of the program you're interested in and be upfront about your situation.
It's always been my view that they don't look at the GPA as an entry barrier as much as an indication that you have the grey matter to compete in a very intense environment. I'd say most schools are willing to provide a little give as far as the first two years of undergrad goes as long as you proved yourself in the last two years.
