MBA Admissions Consultants - Useful? Real?

Has anyone tried to use the consulting service to assist in applying to the top MBA programs?

I see that there are a lot of such services online, but I don't even know if they're legitimate. If they're legit, how can a person distinguish one from another?

Any thoughts?

I've spoken with David Petersam of Admissions Consultants several times on the phone. He is a very nice guy and very knowledgeable of what he does.

I've brushed shoulders with some other consultants who I can't stand and are frankly annoying.
