wooying 10-20-2006, 01:25 AM I am planning to go for my MBA and having not being in school for 10 years. I am trying to get back into things so here my question should I take my GMAT now and not have my scores send to any schools and wait until I get a comfortable score or will the college see my scores when I do get a better grade? One last thing, does taking the GMAT 3 or 4 times really hurt you? Considering they keep your scores for the next 5 years. Let me know. Thanks again for your input.
Wooying,
A college will be able to see all your scores regardless of how many times you take it and whether you send it to any schools.
Apparently it DOES reflect badly on you if you keep trying at the GMAT and can't improve your score. The general rule of thumb is- if you can't raise your GMAT by 30 points or more, don't bother, it won't make a difference. While it's common to take it three times and probably won't be that bad- the key would be an increase in your score from the first to the last time.
I'd suggest doing practice tests instead of doing the real thing for the sake of practice. When you feel comfortable with your score with the practice tests, then it's time to take the GMAT, not before. Good luck!
