bbechelli 11-09-2006, 05:19 AM Ok so here is my situation...
I am a sophomore at UC Berkeley and am liking Anderson, Marshall, etc. I have a few questions that somebody might have the answers to.
1. How is a GPA weighted differently from different schools. For instance, how much more pull does going to Berkeley have than, say, an Arizona or a small private school.
2. Do MBA programs like an undergrad business degree or would they prefer Economics or something in the humanities department (I am currently applying to the Economics program).
3. Would a public school (i.e. UCLA) be cheaper for instate residents than say an S.C. or Stanford.
Any help would be great and if there is anyone out there that helps students plan early for something like this, I would love to hear from you.

sarat 11-09-2006, 12:26 PM Well.. these are my opinions on the questions you asked.
1. I do not think GPA is weighted from differrent schools. I think schools view GPA is a reflection of your academic ability. For the most part, I do not think they run scenarios of "Is GPA of 3.5 from school X in major Y better than GPA of School A in major B." Sure, there are some subjective decisions - a 4.0 from Caltech in Engineering will probably rank way up than any engineering graduate but that I think is a small part of the whole admissions process, your experience, your intent of doing an MBA, etc etc counts a lot.
2. I personally think MBA programs do not care for undergrad degrees in business.
3. In-state tution at UCLA is going to be much cheaper than tution at a private university like Stanford or USC. However, there may be more merit based scholarships at a private university and a better placement of the MBA students.
Hope this helps
