do schools do a background check on every applicant?
can they find out about misdemeanors?
and more importantly, does a underage drinking misdemeanor (from 4 years ago) affect the admission decision on an applicant?

thank you.

It may be a good thing if you're applying to Florida State.

I think your situation is not unusual. If you can show that you've been an upstanding citizen since that little misunderstanding, I'm sure it can be overlooked. Honestly who here on this board doesn't know someone who got in trouble for underage drinking.

FYI, Yale lets in terrorists.

I've had friends with misdemeanors get into business school. It shouldn't hurt your chances. And to be really truthful, it's a good chance that might not even show up on a background check. I have to run background checks for my rental property business and it's surprising how things don't turn up on certain people that you know have records.

Kids in the states get charged for underage drinking?
You crazy crazy Americans, if they had the same lunacy here in Canada, all the kids would be locked up for life.......me included.
Gotta love that 19 age limit up here though ;)

Focus on the positive aspects of what you have accomplished. Your current strengths is what is important.

Anyways, the misdemeanor for drinking will show that you can network and socialize. If I remember correctly, didn't Bush have a DUI before obtaining his MBA???

Do to that age limit of 19 in Canada, I don't remember my trip to Whistler. :o
