AHHH....Wait Listed!

I just received notification that I have been wait listed from a professional MBA program that McCombs conducts in Dallas. I was wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience.

What is the actual (not buttered up) chance that I'll gain admission? And is there anything that I can do in the meantime to help gain admission?

Thanks in advance for any help.:D:D

Its early so your chances are better but don't hold your breath waiting. Not everyone who is accepted enrolls which opens up the waitlist. David Petersam might have some advice for you. BTW, did you hear back from SMU? I beleive you said you were going to apply there as well.

I am actually preparing my application for SMU as we speak. Hopefully, things will work out better with them. To be honest, I had made up my mind to await the outcome with McCombs before pursuing the Cox path.

Thanks again for your help.

This is from 2004 for the 2-year fulltime program, but it might give you an idea of your chances (this is from businessweek.com's profile of UT):

The B-school placed 104 applicant(s) on its wait list. 69 wait-listed applicants were admitted to the semester for which they applied.

66% of waitlisted folks ended up getting admitted. Those aren't bad odds! If McCombs allows supplemental material to be submitted, I'd look at the weaknesses in your application and write them a letter or another essay to help reaffirm your interest in the school. Also, if you get a bonus or a raise or a promotion anytime in the near future, you should let the Adcom know about it.

Good luck!

McCombs gave me an interview, but didn't give me admission. If I had been more excited about going to UT, I might be upset; however, I think I'm more irritated at being rejected than I am upset at not being admitted. It's a professional version of, "You don't break up with me, I break up with you."

Cox has offered me a place in the upcoming full time class. Poetic justice, irony and just a little bit of vindictiveness are going to force me into an internship next summer in HR somewhere, just so I can say the graduates from the school who rejected me now work for me.

If any of you are going to be at SMU next year, hit me up. I have never lived in Dallas, but have socialized in Dallas all my life.
